Camp NaNoWriMo – April 2019
Posted by Catherine on March 21, 2019 at 5:43 pmHello friends!
That time of year again! For anyone planning on participating in this year’s Camp NaNo, I’ve made a private cabin for the Mounties!
If you haven’t done NaNo (National Novel Writing Month), or Camp NaNo before, it’s basically just one big month-long writing challenge. The difference between the two is that at Camp, you set your own goal, whereas for the November NaNo, everyone’s goal is to write 50,000 words.
So your Camp goal can be anything at all, from writing those 50k, more or less, or just a general goal to write a little bit every day with time counts instead of word counts (15 minutes a day instead of 1500 words). Your goal can also be to spend time editing something you’ve already written. The world is truly your writing oyster.
If you’d like to join the Mountie cabin, go ahead and register your project on the Camp NaNo website (https://campnanowrimo.org/), then drop me your Camp username by April 1st and I can add you! You can either comment it here or PM me, whatever you prefer.
Can’t wait to write with you all!!

I’ll give it a shot! Since Camp NaNo is more relaxed, I think it’ll help me get in the habit of writing regularly.
-
Woohoo! It’ll let me add you as soon as you create your project.
-
-
Hmmm, I might participate since it could help me write my final paper for my independent study. Do you all think that’s appropriate?
-
Definitely appropriate! It’s basically a glorified goal tracker with friends. Academic papers for sure count

How does this relate to abandoned projects? I’ve got something I started but I felt overwhelmed by the direction I went to and maybe this would let me finish these meager 2k or so words I started with (which would probably involve heavy editing at the beginning anyway).
-
My project is a continuously abandoned and then picked up again project too, so I’m gonna say go for it!
-
-
Ok, let’s roll then and hope I won’t screw up
-
Sweet!! I’ll add you to our cabin as soon as you create your project

Okay, I’m all set up! My username (I think) is RemusSargin, but you should be able to find it here: https://campnanowrimo.org/campers/remussargin

pokes @Catherine cause im worried about the 2 days left thing
EDIT: Right, it appears my minimum allowance is 30 pages.
Guess my novella im writing is gonna be far, far longer than anticipated o3o;

Made up my mind at almost the last possible minute, but I sort of fell out of daily journaling and I’d like to get back into that, so I figure a little internet accountability couldn’t hurt…
-
Yay! Everybody’s in! And there’s still time if anyone else wants to hop in too!!
-
-
Happy first day of camp, everyone!! May you be blessed with a month of fresh pens, fully charged computers, and an endless supply of caffeine and ideas!!
-
I should have cleaned my fountain pens yesterday. Poop.

Sorry, had to disconnect myself from basically everything to finish the story.
BUT.
HERE.
I.
AM.
After reviewing, redoing and so on, narrowing to 17000 words, I ended with 18090 of them, completing Duskflower.
Yes, it will require editing and corrections here and there but the story is done, so: thank you, @Catherine for initiating this and everyone for being such a great moral boost
-
That is AMAZING!!! Congrats!!! I had to lower my goal a bit but hoping to still hit it by the end of the day too. How are you going to celebrate??
-
-
I…did not have the time I was expecting. I would guess that I did at least as much writing for school/work things as I had been wanting to do on my personal project, but I wasn’t tracking it. Maybe next time.
-
I mean… i got 17 pages done. I suppose that alones rather commendable? I just didnt know where to go once i finished.
Drus, 17000 words is absolutely KILLER. Thats insane, nearly a proper novel, albeit a small one 030. Any plans on sharing it around?
-
Any work at all is worth celebrating!! School work, creative work, messages to friends. You guys used words in a thoughtful and special way and that’s all that matters
-
Thank you for your kind words
The link is in the previous post (just click on the title :)) But you can click here as well

(forgive me for over sharing).
And yes, CJ, of course it’s a good outcome and I’m looking forward to seeing it completed if you decide to share it
Same for Catherine!
I swear to god, I really started to hate myself at some point. Some parts were rushed, some scenes had to drop because I didn’t feel them. Sometimes I had to do more of research than I expected (especially when it came to historical buildings in Edinburgh, then having a tour over my friend’s parents’ house form 1865). Finally, I found myself either between finishing it as it was or by expanding further and further – which I don’t believe worked for my previous work that ended as mammoth 250.000 words.
Ok, I think I celebrated by throwing this out of myself.
And now I’m going to watch The Great British Bake-off only because it has no literature whatsoever (and my head needs to cool down).
