    Character Idea

    Name: Erik Olsen

    Guild: Weatherwatch

    Bearing: Ardeonaut

Backstory: Erik Olsen is an Australian firefighter taking a sabbatical after loosing a close friend on the job a little over a year ago. Suffering from a bit of survivors guilt but wanting to honour the vibrant memory of his fallen colleague Erik is on a Backpacking adventure through the states. Stopping briefly in the small town of Stoney Harbour he is drawn to the city centre when a mysterious fire takes hold of city hall. Jumping into action he leads the towns small and somewhat inexperienced volunteer fire fighting department in controlling the blaze and also saving the life of Alexander Vale the towns mayor. In turn Alexander offers Erik a position at the fire station while he investigates the mysterious circumstances around the fire.

    High Concept: Buutt shenanigans,

The jovial Aussie has a very relaxed domineer and uses this to mask the pain of his past.

(“Do as I say not as I do” seems to be Erik’s life motto, his jovial attitude towards life tends to rub off onto his actions… not always for the better)

Trouble: I’m here for your safety.

After loosing one of his mates in a devastating fire, Erik has been suffering from survivors guilt. Wondering why he escaped the blaze when is comrade didn’t. For this reason Erik now struggles, not only with the guilt but, to let anyone close to him be exposed to any sort of danger.

(Having a profession that involves saving lives Erik is willing to do just about anything to help and protect those he cares most about)

    Bonds

Primary Bond: After the events of the City Hall Blaze Erik has agreed to stay on as the towns chief firefighter, in part because it was hard to refuse Alexanders offering as he didn’t want Alexander to continue feeling indebted to him, and the local volunteer fire department was in need of some serious help.

Primary bond aspect: “I’ll make a man out of you.”

Secondary Bond: After saving his life from the blaze at city hall Erik was offered the position of Chief firefighter by Mayor Alexander. Alexander has a lot of influence throughout the town, especially with small business owners. Eriks role in saving Alexander’s life hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Second bond aspect: Keys to the city.

Tertiary Bond: When the blaze took hold of City hall, Caroline Ashburns camera was recording the whole time, capturing Erik’s heroics for all to see. Regardless on their individual perceptions of they Mayor everyone can agree that he is a hero and if they didn’t see it they heard about it.

Tertiary Bond aspect: Man of the Hour

I may have misled people on this one, oops. Aspects should ultimately be snappy names that summarize some part of your character’s personality or history. So if the “mysterious fire” is how you first came in contact with magic or what caused you to be at the start of this campaign, then some drilled-down snappy name for that event’s effects would be your Phase 1 Aspect, like “Drawn Into a Local Disaster” or something (not a great example but you get what I’m suggesting.)

And also keep in mind that your Aspects can become more refined during gameplay as you learn more about your character, their relationships, and the story.

I really like the idea of Stony Harbor having a volunteer fire department with only a handful of firefighters. All of whom were unprepared when the City Hall blaze broke out. When Erik stepped in to help, they all gravitated toward him as a leader (since none of them really knew what they were doing). Something Mayor Vale recognized right away.

Maybe focus your primary bond on leading a pack of amateurs? Like “Gotta Whip Them Into Shape”?

@Mike I know I’m risking the flavour of my character but would it be easier for you to swap “Butt Shenanigans” for “Survivors Guilt”??

especially now that there is a badge for it :deirdrexd:

Ooooorrrr would I’m here for your safety work better as a trouble cause of my survivors guilt and Buutt Shenanigans can become my high concept so I can use it? :tedevil:

Well, since you’re starting at level 7 (which is the beginning of Act II) for the next session, you have the option to change your High Concept.

That said, I’m not sure Survivor’s Guilt would work as a High Concept. It’s inherently negative which is something that’s saved for your Trouble Aspect. And even though it certainly has a command over every part of your character, it isn’t WHO your character is. Right? But I do I think it would be an excellent Trouble though. I’m Here For Your Safety is a neat phrase that captures your character as a firefighter who is always willing to help. That feels like a much better High Concept to me.

But you can change that whole cloth or tweak it as much or as little as you want. Normally, you’d have a whole Act of story to look at how your character’s high Concept might have changed. Since we’re fast forwarding, it might be a bit tough to figure out how your character may have changed. And just because you can change, doesn’t mean you have to. If you like it, stick with it!

Buutt Shenanigans would work as one of your regular Aspects, since not all Aspects have to be (or should be) positive. It’s something that could be a lot of fun for the Narrator and other players to compel.

Ah ok, cheers for that. Are we allowed to have more than the 3 bonds?

I might let it sit and marinate for a bit. I do really like the idea of other readers being able to compel “Buutt Shenanigans” though :tedevil: :deirdreexcited:

That’s perfectly fine. It shouldn’t be a problem at all.

    Name: Erik Olsen

    Guild: Weatherwatch

    Bearing: Ardeonaut

Backstory: Erik Olsen is an Australian firefighter taking a sabbatical after loosing a close friend on the job a little over a year ago.

The day had started like many others that week. Bushfires were ravaging the vast country side of rural Victoria and they had been rushed down to help the overwhelmed local forces. having done some impressive work in guiding the fire away from a small cattle station Erik and his crew where returning to their temporary base of operations to clean up, grab a feed and some well deserved rest. Being in such high spirits Erik allowed one of the younger members of his crew, Paul, to drive the rig for the very first time. Half way back they received an urgent call over the radio. The winds had abruptly changed direction and the fire was now headed straight for their location. The fire now bearing down on them the rush was on to get out before they where completely overwhelmed. The wall of flames was growing steadily higher when an old gumtree gave way crashing down onto the bonnet of the rig. Somehow Erik’s seatbelt failed and he was flung through the windshield of the rig. passing out before he even hit the ground.

Waking up in a hospital bed days later, miraculously with only minor injuries he discovered the Paul had not been so lucky and took the full impact from the falling tree.

Suffering from a bit of survivors guilt but wanting to honour the vibrant memory of his fallen colleague Erik is on a Backpacking adventure through the states, one of Pauls many bucket list items. Where he is drawn into the sleepy town of Stony Harbour

    High Concept: Buutt shenanigans,

The jovial Aussie has always been blessed with good fortune, resulting in his willingness to accept dares and participate in foolish competitions.

Trouble: I’m here for your safety.

After loosing Paul in a devastating accident, Erik has been suffering from survivors guilt. Wondering why he escaped the crash when is comrade didn’t. For this reason Erik now struggles, not only with the guilt but, to let anyone close to him be exposed to any sort of danger.
