Important Question for Members
Posted by CJB on November 6, 2018 at 2:58 pmSo, as many of you have guessed, @Crytter is the next in line to find a clue in Secret Society. They haven’t been on the forum since January and we’ve sent two emails (and several forums @’s) that they haven’t responded to.
So, instead of rewriting the clue, etc. what do you guys think about me making the administrative decision to use a capability in the forum’s backend to impersonate Crytter long enough to respond to the clue and move the narrative along?
And if this happens again, approving of me using this feature to continue the immersion and momentum of the Society?
I’m normally loathed to use it, and have only used it in the past during the end of TMP for dramatic effect, but I know the active members of @The_Secret_Society want to move forward…
Thoughts?

I think that it is a totally reasonable and sensible action to take
-
I think I lean towards there being another plot solution for it, if possible. But it’s been so long and they haven’t responded soooo, I wouldn’t feel terribly guilty about the impersonation idea if it comes down to that.
-
I agree with Rev. I understand how burdensome it would be for CJ to re-write the story, but I’d rather see an honest answer than using impersonation. I understand why it would be a reasonable solution, but it makes my moral compass not feel so great.
I hope @Crytter is okay! They were very responsive back during TMP when we worked on the poem/illustrations towards the end.

I think maybe on this occassion as we’ve been stuck in one place for a while that maybe it’d be okay. If possible, of course, alternate solutions might be better, but I feel as if we need to keep things moving.
-
I appreciate your thoughts. And normally I would lean toward “CJ fixes it by writing more” but I don’t have the time or bandwidth right now, and it’s hard to write a narrative and have to adjust it 3-4 times per leg with more writing.
I mean, it’s also in your hands… If you want to find the clue’s location and find someone near the location to download the app and find the clue like an old school scavenger hunt, I’ll remove the “person who it’s about has to find it” requirement.

I would vote (11/6, USA Mounties!) to take a crack at it first. I have some German friends. @Deyavi – do you have any contacts from your travels that could make this feasible?
-
No, but I may know some Soldiers stationed there. I would need to be able to explain exactly what they need to do, and where they need to be though, for them to agree.

Ok, here’s a question – what if we combine two of these ideas?
Let’s say we make a new account, and this made up person is also “in” Germany. We can just say they’re a lurker or something, so they know how stuff works. That way, Crytter isn’t impersonated, CJ doesn’t have to write around an absent person, and we don’t have to worry about there being other German Mounties (which I assume there are little to none). How would y’all feel about that?
-
I love @Revenir’s idea! I was kinda on the fence…not wanting to add to the writing load but a bit uncomfortable with the impersonation. But I think the phantom account works best. And then we have this in our back pocket if this happens again. Say this person travels for work a lot or something
-
And here’s MY overworked compromise… how about I randomly choose one of you, tell you the location, and have you create the account and write the post?
-
I wouldn’t mind doing it if that’s okay? I kind of got a short fiction idea for this fantasy person once I thought of the idea. XD
-
Rocks/paper/scissors?
Kidding. I’m a big fan of your writing and ideas, Rev, so I’m thrilled to let you take this one on.

I’m really for this idea. It sounds fun for whomever is choosen and allows us to continue the story with minor difficulty.

Yeah, Rev’s compromise is a good idea. Heck even if Saberlane just said ‘Crytter is super busy but they dropped me a line to say they found this here…’
Keep it simple and easy and rolling along.

I’ll be posting when I get home tonight.
First reading of The Wolves so I won’t get proper PC access for a hot second.
