November 2019 Writing Prompt!
So, I thought it would be neat for people to have a place where once a month we pop up a writing prompt and what follows is everyone’s responses to it. As long as it is a written piece and it fits with the prompt then please post below!
Your written piece can be anything; journal entry, short story, an epic of haiku stanza…whatever speaks to you.
This prompt is one I found a couple years back on r/writingprompts and has kinda stuck with me ever since:
Every day when you leave the house you see in your neighbors window a hastily drawn sign saying “We do not have a dragon, please go away.” Today however, something makes you wonder why.

I stood at my window and watched.
Furtively they came, the knockers at my neighbours’ door. In ones and twos, and once as three, but always trying to be discreet. Their voices always whispering.
My neighbours, Carl and Jenny, tended to ignore them. It was the insistent ones, the ones who kept knocking, that would be answered.
A weary sigh from Jenny and a point to the sign. A shaken fist or a shove from Carl. Eventually driving away even the most determined seeker.
I knew the truth though. Now, the noises of the night and the warmth of the winter made sense.
So it was that, in the middle of the night, I plastered a sign of my own over the one on the window.
A sign that declared the truth.
“Here be dragons”
