The Briar Archive App
Hello! I just wanted to start a new thread regarding the new official app for Ackerly Green and The Briar Archive. Over the next six months or so I’m going to be shifting the “branding” of this site to be more immersive and magical, calling it The Briar Archive, which is the name of the liminal lost library in The Briar Society and the collective name of the Briarverse book series.
And that rebranding starts today, at least for Android users! The Android Briar Archive app is officially live! With it, you can read, post, and share on the community forum, and finally receive immediate mobile notifications to alert you of relevant activity, both in the community and within the narrative!
Over the next few months I’ll be adding and customizing the app with more areas and secrets, but the live version is a perfect portal to the community with notifications (you can customize) to keep you connected!
We had one hiccup with the iOS version but I’ve made the necessary changes and resubmitted this morning so ?? it should only be a couple days until Apple users can download the app as well!
NOTE: BuddyBoss, our new forum platform, doesn’t come with like “hearts” out of the box so I had someone develop the current system, but because it’s a 3rd party customization the “like” feature isn’t currently available on the app. But BuddyBoss is working on adding likes/upvotes/reactions to the app version and I’ll push an update as soon as they do!
Also, I activated gifs for the forum, so to commemorate the new app launch:

As a live-&-die Android user, I must say thanks for getting that app out first! I have no idea why, but Android apps are never published first 😀

I think, depending on the code base they were using, developers had to build different apps for each store and often prioritized where most of their audience was, but the Briar Archive app is built with React Native which works on both platforms. The iOS app got delayed because Apple is a little more stringent about online community apps having really thorough moderation/suspensions settings, which I’m all for, so I had to tweak a couple settings and resubmit this morning.
Let me know how the Android app works for you, and what you’d like to see in it in future releases!

So excited to finally see an official forum app! As an iOS user I’ll have to wait the extra couple days but I understand that apps are tricky and it must be difficult to design one for both operating systems at the same time.
I think I’m probably most excited about getting instant notifications on forum posts. I remember back when we were getting new forum members daily it was difficult to keep up with the welcome wagon since it took about 10 minutes or so for email notifications to come through, and occasionally they would get kicked to spam.
Really appreciate all the hard work you’ve put into getting an official app working for all of us!

This is already 10x a better experience then I was getting through the browser ? I’m not sure why, perhaps it was the browser I use, but the site was taking super long to load anything on the forums. The only request I have so far is probably not surprising, but I would really appreciate a dark mode, if that’s possible for the current build of the app.

Oooo, this app version is nice! It’s great to have an AGP app again. I’m looking forward to having a like/heart/upvote system on the app, soon, but in the meantime, I’ll just use the web version ?
