The Original Joradian Symbol 2

Remembered by DjangoSolare, a member of the Briar Society:

Wait, that’s insane. That’s the symbol on my mom’s figurine!

Well, it was. Sorry, let me explain. When I was a kid, my mom had this curio cabinet. She kept her whole collection of Precious Moments pieces in there, and then, in the recesses of my mind… there was this other piece.

It was an odd, twisted kind of woman in a shabby robe holding a scroll. The detail on it was insanely intricate – the text on the scroll was impossibly tiny, but you could read it like anything else at normal size. Well, someone could read it; I was three so it was Greek to me.

At the bottom of the scroll there was a tiny seal with that symbol embossed on it. The image of that symbol is as clear to me as anything else in my memory, even though it never existed here, in this timeline. In this life.

Even so, I somehow remember playing with the figurine with some of my other toys. I think I called her Granny Thorn.

I remember playing with Granny Thorn and my mom would always take her and put her back, well out of my reach. I know for an absolute fact that I’ve never opened that cabinet – to this day I’m not completely sure how it opens – but now I also know that I played with Granny Thorn dozens of times.

In my memory, I asked my mom several times where the figurine came from. After all, she was vastly different from every other piece in the cabinet. I’m not certain I ever got a clear answer. The best I can remember is she got it from some great-great-whoever for her confirmation or something.

Now here’s the interesting thing. When I was like 13 we moved across town. Now littered in those memories of moving is me watching my mom put Granny Thorn in a box with the other figures. I watched her seal it immediately after. But I know I opened the box and hid her in my room. She never made it back into the cabinet.

I think she went with me to college. She may have even come with me when I got my first apartment.

Incidentally, the symbol @Heather drew is incomplete. I am no artist, but I borrowed my wife’s iPad and sketched it out.
